  Winter Camp Theme

Ready to get serious about following Jesus?

Interested in more than just a "camp high"?

Looking for practical ways to die to self and live for Him?

Then join us in Winter 2010 for...

"... train yourselves to be godly.  For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come."

1 Timothy 4:7-8

In 2009, we adopted a new approach to our youth camps throughout the months of January and February.  Instead of attempting to heat cabins for 70 students (and consequently blowing-up all our generators), we decided to limit the number of campers attending each weekend to 36.  This allowed us to house all of the students snugly in our Lodge and Guest House buildings.  More importantly, the smaller number of campers gave us the opportunity to dig a little deeper into God’s Word with each student.  Whereas our summer camps are all about evangelism and outreach, winter camps are definitely becoming more focused on discipleship and spiritual growth.  And we’re pretty stoked about that.

So, in winter 2010, we’ll be retaining this smaller-but-deeper format for our youth camps.  Building on last winter’s theme of worship, this year we’ll be discussing the spiritual disciplines.  You know, things like fasting, prayer, Scripture meditation, solitude ... maybe even silence.  (Well, silence might be asking a bit too much of the Jr. Highers!)  Anyway, the point is, we’ll be exploring some practical steps that all of us can take in order to draw closer to God.

Of course, the first and most crucial of these steps is to “believe in the Lord Jesus” (Acts 16:31).  We at Cowboy’s Rest firmly believe that the only way to the Father is through the Son; and that’s why we will be sharing the gospel of Christ at these winter camps, just as we do at every CR function.  But for students who already posses a relationship with Jesus, what’s next?  How can they intentionally grow in their walk with Him?  What can we learn from the disciplines that Christ Himself practiced during His time on this earth?  And how can these Christian teenagers overcome the all too familiar pattern of “camp high” followed by “crash-and-burn” worldly re-entry?

Well, these are some of the questions we’ll be exploring with our campers in the next few months.  We would definitely appreciate your prayers as we write this curriculum and finalize this theme.  But most importantly, please pray for the young Christian men and women who will be attending camp at CR this winter.  May the Lord speak to them in a powerful way through His Word.  And may He raise-up a generation of godly, disciplined saints who will follow the Lamb wherever He leads.  (Revelation 14:4)
